Our school Library is a key place to develop inquiry & research skills, critical thinking, information literacy skills, and a positive attitude toward reading.  Our library promotes the development of information literacy skills needed for living in the 21st century.  

Our Mission Statement

​The mission of the Stephen Lewis Library Learning Commons is to support curriculum in conjunction with teaching staff, and to assist students to develop cross-curricular information literacy skills.  Our focus is to inspire a love of learning that will foster the development of higher level thinking skills and contribute to the formation of lifelong learners in our school community.  We strive to develop a collection of resources that promotes and supports student success while at the same time reflecting their interests and needs.

We strive to meet this mandate by creating a dynamic teaching and learning environment. The Stephen Lewis Library Learning Commons works in partnership with teachers, students and community members.  We focus on the co-creation of learning opportunities that are authentic, experiential, flexible and personalized to support student success and well being.

Research Tools

As part of the research process it is important to cite or document information sources used.  A bibliography will have to be prepared upon completion of research on a given topic.  To cite a source means to give credit for the original source of information.

There are three different types of citation styles:

Authentic Inquiry using Problem Solving Approaches:  Integrative Thinking + Design Thinking

Integrative Thinking (I-Think) is a problem solving model that provides a framework (I.C.E.) Innovative, Creative, Entrepreneurial to support the development of thinking and problem solving strategies to help students face challenging problems

Design Thinking in Education is a mindset and approach to learning, collaboration, and problem solving. In practice, the design process is a structured framework for identifying challenges, gathering information, generating potential solutions, refining ideas, and testing solutions.

Both problems solving frameworks can work in conjunction with one another.
